A penalty shootout is a method used to determine the winner of a soccer match that ends in a draw after regular playing time and extra time. Each team selects five players to take penalty kicks against the opposing team's goalkeeper. The team that scores the most goals after five rounds of penalties wins the shootout. If both teams continue to score or miss in the same number of attempts, the shootout goes into sudden death, where each team takes another penalty kick until one team scores and the other misses. This process continues until there is a winner. **
